Tim Ho Wan is a one Michelin star dim sum restaurant located in Olympian City, Tai Kok Tsui, Hong Kong. Michelin or not, I don’t take that into consideration when evaluating the food quality or service of a restaurant.
Tim Ho Wan epitomizes the Hong Kong style, where cheap, fast, efficient, and good prevail. There is no 10% service charge here, and everything. For the price, it’s good quality.
The cheung fun noodle wrappings are thin and the liver / kidneys inside are flavorful. Lor bat go is average, wish it could have had more filling in it. Ma li go is probably the best I’ve ever had, which is to me, just a good surprise. Totally made my day with that golden sponginess. Very lightly sweet. Glazed thinly and so hot, so fresh. I couldn’t believe it. Lastly, the char siu bao crunchy style garnished a lot of hype over the years, so I wanted to evaluate whether it deserved all that hype. Fortunately, it did somewhat. While the filling was lackluster, the bun itself was crunchy hot and glazed.
Also ordered but not pictured, rice with pai gwat and rice with beef meatballs and egg.
For a place that promises no service due to the no 10% service charge, the service is good. They are fast and efficient, which is what Hong Kong always seems to promise, and if it is not fast and efficient nor good and cheap, who would go?
What I liked a lot about Tim Ho Wan is that the menu limits itself to the basics of what is only necessary. Let’s just cut to the chase.
I recommend Tim Ho Wan for those who are in the close vicinity of the many locations.
